Scientific Instrument Society Summer Visit 2024

July 13 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm BST

£10

A curator-led tour of the clock and sundial collection at Moyse Hall Museum Our host Alex McWhirter has kindly offered to provide us with unparalleled access to the collections, which are described as follows:

West Suffolk Heritage Service’s Horology collection is often remarked upon as being one of the best outside of the Nation’s capital. Amongst this melange can be found one of the largest collections of Automata ‘Augsberg’ clocks, as well as a fine collection of Dials, Brackets and Longcases. Most of the great English clockmakers are featured amongst the variety, but equally can be found rare examples from as far afield as Japan. The earliest amongst the displays dates to the 1530s and was uniquely made for the Bury St Edmunds market by a German maker. One of a kind examples can also be found, including one recently repatriated after a historic robbery over 60 years ago.

This unique behind-the-scenes opportunity is available at just £10 per person.
We will explore options for a group lunch before the tour begins at 2pm
(additional charge). To help us plan effectively, please register your expression of interest,
without obligation, via our Executive Officer, Sarah Cavalier,
