Our Long Study Tour for 2023 will be an opportunity to discover historic collections and sites across Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. We are investigating visits to the following places (also available as a flyer):

– Harvard Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments
– Harvard College Observatory, including the Great Refractor and Plate Stacks
–  MIT Museum, Boston
– Dartmouth College Collection of Scientific Instruments
– American Precision Museum
– The Hartness-Porter Museum of Amateur Telescope Making and Stellafane
– Peabody Museum History of Science and Technology, Yale Collection Studies Center
– Mystic Seaport Museum (navigational and surgical instruments)
–  Willard House and Clock Museum

This trip will involve extensive coach travel for the regional visits (around 2-3
hours each way per day) so we anticipate that we will have to raise the budget
to around £500 per person (to include entrance fees, coach travel from Boston,
the conference dinner and some lunches where feasible). We will endeavour
to keep the costs as affordable as possible.

Delegates will be required to organise their own travel and accommodation
arrangements for Boston. We are currently investigating possible hotel options.

The final programme with confirmed visits and booking form will be available
in the March 2023 Bulletin but to help us plan most effectively we would be
grateful if you could indicate your expression of interest, without obligation, by
emailing the Executive Officer (info@scientificinstrumentsociety.org) by
31st January 2023.
