Fireside Chat ’The Untold Story of the Production of Zeiss Microscopes in Israel, 1952 – ~1965’
February 19 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC+0
Presented by Yuval Goren.
Between 1952 and ca. 1965, over 2,000 copies of the Carl Zeiss Standard Junior microscope were manufactured by the Louis D. Brandeis technological high school in West Jerusalem, Israel. The ‘Brandeis microscope’, as it was nicknamed, was a rather exact copy of the original German model with some modifications. The instrument was reportedly entirely made in Israel, but the lenses were purchased from Germany by the Hadassah organization in the USA. Through the study of documents, interviews with some of the users and analysis of the few surviving instruments, I will share the piquant details of this incredible story.
