Chairman’s message regarding coronavirus
From the Chairman to all our Members
In the present extraordinary situation it will not surprise you to know that Society activity has had to be greatly curtailed.
I regret that the study tours to Armagh on the 27th–29th March and Northern Italy 17th–23rd May have now been postponed. Our 13th June AGM at Glaziers Hall and the link up with RMets and SIM are also postponed.
Because of the way the calendars work, it has been provisionally agreed that the study tours be moved back a calendar year and to that end, we are indebted to our hosts in Ireland Professor Michael Burton, Heather Alexander and Carol Contin and in Italy, Mara Fausone and Laura Ronzon who were working with our President, Paulo Brenni.
I am sorry we have been obliged to take these courses of action but, as you know, there really was little choice as this extraordinary situation develops. I am very grateful to members who were supporting these events – but please pencil for similar dates next year. I must also thank the hard work of our Events Officer, Louise Devoy who has had a singular start to her formal role and has worked tirelessly on our behalf for what I know would have been excellent visits; and Sarah Cavalier who now has to undo all her hard admin work – delegate refunds will be organised as soon as possible, I am assured.
I hope this message finds you in good health and that, come 6th November, all this will be a distant memory so we can enjoy Prof. Frank James’s giving the Gerard Turner Memorial Lecture.
